Going Back To My Roots

“OK mum you can go indoors now,” my teens looked pleadingly at me.

They were in the back garden hanging out with their mates around the fire, toasting marshmallows and listening to tunes.

“Ha OK!”

I left feeling nostalgic for my youth and missed my mates too! We still do fun things like this together.

“You will tidy up when you come in please?” I called.

“Yes mum!”

This morning, the crows woke me up fluttering around the teens debris of Dorritos, dips and marshmallows. My daughter snored on in the tent with the twins.

I decided to go for a walk to the woods that back onto our house. Actually, I wanted some long sticks for my climbing bean wigwam frame. Last years have mysteriously disappeared. My husband does enjoy a fire, mmm.

I didn’t find anything suitable, as needed my secateurs to cut back all the pocking out twigs to make them easier to carry out.

Instead, I took some photos and reflected on how much I love being in nature and decided to embrace my natural aging. There’s a makeup-less selfie image at the end of this blog with my roots and wrinkles. As you may know from a previous blog I gave up investigating the no-poo hair method and instead opted only for sulfate-free shampoos. I have though continued not to dye.

Shortly after returning from this adventure, there was a comment on my Instagram from Rosamund Community Garden. In 2018, I created the Random Dialogues video below with Joanna one of their volunteers (it starts at 0:11). Its a pretty basic video, my editing wasn’t so hot I did it on my phone in the wrong format. My daughter and I enjoy visiting the gardens and this month will be helping them to build their new compost loo.

I’m 50 this year.

Going back to my roots.

Always a teenager at heart.

Nature Knows.
