“How Giving Up Sugar Changed My Life for the Better!”

It took me almost a decade to finally kick my sugar habit, but I’ve successfully ditched refined sugar for good. Although I still enjoy a daily apple and handful of blueberries and cherries, my body no longer craves sweets, chocolate, and booze like it used to.

Despite the initial two-day detox symptoms, which included mild headaches, tiredness, and irritability, I’m now reaping the benefits of a sugar-free life — including a reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, as well as better energy levels and improved mood.

Additionally, giving up sugar has helped alleviate some of my menopause symptoms, polycystic ovary, and underactive thyroid conditions. To complement my sugar detox, I’ve also adopted a low glycemic index (GI) eating habit, which has helped with weight management and blood sugar control by balancing my carb intake and choosing slow-release options.

Most days I pack a cool bag of snacks and small meals so that when I’m out and about I can grab something healthy from it, this is saving money too! It takes a bit of getting organised and my husband despairs at all the different containers! I also found that tidying my kitchen cupboards really helped with my mindset and focus. I didn't do them all once though, little and often, focusing on the doable.

Most mornings I wake up and spend a bit of time visualising the day and how I’m going to be. I like to do a bit of exercise too, 20 minutes here and there via Youtube videos (eg, I do like Nicole), plus I cycle to places locally whenever possible. If you read these updates then you’ll know about my inherited Brompton foldaway and the e-bike I purchased. (I wrote this e-bike e-book practical guide).

I’ve found out the best way to fall off this healthy bandwagon is to eat sugar.

Have I missed it? Actually no, not when I eat properly and keep my blood sugar balanced, there are no cravings. And because I feel good I don’t want the “crappy” slumpy feelings to return.

If I’ve not become too much of a sugar-free bore, and you’d like to know more, please leave a comment below and I’ll message you back.
